The Maratika Caves is a sacred pilgrimage site in eastern Nepal associated with the Buddha Padmasambhava and Shiva the Hindu deity. Padmasambhava with his consort Mandarava performed many miraculous deeds in this place. Maratika is a very important place for Amitabha and Amitayus, possibly one of the most powerful Buddhist places in the world. V.N.O.S. will be sponsoring Amitayus puja at Maratika every month from the Health Fund, to remove life obstacles and to have long life and good health. Maratika or ‘Chi ba mthar byed’ in Tibetan means “eliminates from death”, and is known as Halesi or “literally astonishing”. The place is rich in history, mythology and sacred geology despite its great isolation, it is a major holy place for both Buddhists and Hindus.
